Recommended Semester of Study

1st Level of Study, 3rd Year, Winter Semester

Learning Outcomes

Students will become familiar with the fundamental principles of programmable logic controller (PLC) programming. They will subsequently be able to apply the acquired theoretical knowledge to selected automation tasks and applications.

Brief Course Outline

  1. Basic concepts and definitions related to programmable logic controllers (PLCs).
  2. Overview of different types of programmable logic controllers, their expansion possibilities, and integration with various peripherals according to application requirements.
  3. Electrical wiring and installation of programmable logic controllers.
  4. PLC programming environment (configuration of the programming environment, PLC simulation setup, overview of basic programming languages, ladder diagram editing, and basic work with structured text). Basic information on Directive 2006/42/EC on machinery.
  5. PLC programming using function blocks and libraries (timers, mathematical functions, and related tools).
  6. State machines and their practical applications.
  7. Development of complex applications integrated with graphical user interfaces.
