Learning Outcomes

The course Sensors and Measurement in Electrical Engineering focuses on the measurement and sensing of process variables. Upon successful completion of the course, students will acquire fundamental knowledge of sensor operating principles, as well as the basic methods of measurement, signal processing, and evaluation of quantities required for the automated control of mechatronic systems.

Brief Course Outline

  1. Introduction to Measurement in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Evaluation and Processing of Measurement Data.
  3. General Properties of Sensors.
  4. Resistive Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  5. Capacitive Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  6. Inductive Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  7. Inductive and Hall-Effect Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  8. Piezoelectric and Magnetostrictive Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  9. Other Types of Sensors – Principles, Characteristics, and Applications.
  10. Sensors for Mechanical Quantities with Discrete Outputs.
  11. Sensors for Digital Position Measurement.
  12. Signal Filtering Using Analog and Digital Filters.
