Recommended Semester of Study

1st Level of Study, 2nd Year, Summer Semester

Learning Outcomes

Students will learn the functions of the basic components of automated systems, acquire the ability to analytically describe continuous dynamic systems, and learn to analyze the behavior of systems and closed-loop control circuits in both the time and frequency domains. They will also be able to design and implement basic control circuits for continuous and discrete electromechanical systems.

Brief Course Outline

  1. Basic concepts of automation and technical cybernetics. Physical principles of automation. Typical control structures. Components of automated systems and their functions: measuring elements, control units, and actuating elements.
  2. Mathematical modeling of systems, modeling methods, and block algebra. Mathematical descriptions of continuous dynamic systems, discrete systems, and Boolean systems.
  3. Identification of continuous and discrete dynamic systems.
  4. Analysis of linear dynamic systems in the complex plane, using frequency characteristics and transfer function poles and zeros.
  5. Synthesis of automatic control systems. Types, design methods, characteristics, and applications of the most commonly used control structures with different degrees of freedom.
  6. Methods for the design of continuous and discrete PID controllers. Investigation of the properties of closed-loop control systems in the time and frequency domains. State-feedback (modal) control.
