Recommended Semester of Study

2nd Level of Study, 1st Year, Winter Semester

Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire knowledge in the field of the dynamic properties of electrical machines, methods of speed and torque control for individual machine types, and practical skills in developing dynamic models using the MATLAB/Simulink environment.

Brief Course Outline

  1. Principles of electromagnetic energy conversion in electrical machines.
  2. Mathematical model of commutator machines.
  3. Dynamic models of separately excited DC motors, series DC motors, and compound DC motors.
  4. Dynamic model of the Ward-Leonard drive system and dual-motor drive systems.
  5. Transformations used in electrical machine analysis: Park, Clarke, Concordia, and space-vector transformations.
  6. Mathematical and dynamic models of induction motors.
  7. Mathematical and dynamic models of synchronous motors.
