2nd Level of Study, 2nd Year, Summer Semester

Learning Outcomes

Students will acquire knowledge in the field of design and sizing of electrical engineering systems. They will master the fundamental principles applied in drive system design and gain an understanding of the selection of appropriate components for the entire system. They will also be able to navigate technical project documentation and relevant legislation (standards and regulations) related to the design and safe operation of electrical installations. During practical classes, students will learn to work with electrical engineering project documentation and current technical standards. Through calculation-based exercises, they will develop the skills required to determine the parameters necessary for the proper sizing of electrical equipment. As a result, they will acquire comprehensive knowledge of the design and sizing of components for complete drive systems and associated equipment.

Brief Course Outline

  1. Standards applicable to the design of electromechanical systems and their safe operation.
  2. Technical documentation of electrical equipment.
  3. General principles of sizing and types of loads.
  4. Electrodynamic forces and electrical contacts.
  5. Electrical cables, conductors and their types, identification, and sizing.
  6. Switching, protective, and circuit protection devices.
  7. Sizing and protection of electric motors, starting of induction motors, start-up and braking energy considerations, soft starters.
  8. Sizing of components for controlled AC drives.
  9. Sizing of components for controlled DC drives.
  10. Electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) in industrial installations.
